Sophia's professional career began at The Citadel, where she received a 4-year Naval ROTC scholarship plus a partial track & cross country scholarship. Upon graduation, she was commissioned in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer and reported to her first assignment in San Diego, CA in June of 2010. After 4 years as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving aboard a frigate, destroyer, and an amphibious squadron, Sophia was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where she reported in June 2014. During her time in graduate school, she was selected for a technical focused, dual-master's degree program, a partnership the U.S. Navy has with our allies in Singapore and Israel, where selected officers live abroad to study at the National University of Singapore. In March of 2017, Sophia graduated with a master's degree in Data Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a second master's in systems engineering from the National University of Singapore. From there, she reported for her final assignment in the Navy as a program manager at the Pentagon working with N1, the Navy's personnel and training command where she was responsible for developing the staffing strategy for all aviation and C4I systems. At this same time, Sophia took the opportunity to work for a startup company called BrainGu, where she worked part time as a machine learning developer. Here she utilized her computer programming and data science skills to design various machine learning algorithms to help companies across America automate their systems to improve efficiency, agility, and scalability.

After serving 10 active years in the Navy, Sophia decided to transition to the reserves and begin a new career within corporate america. Since 2020, she has been with Meta where her primary focus is in content moderation with the key objective to keep users safe by removing and preventing violating content from being posted.

Outside of her career, Sophia is also a member of the Junior League, a charity organization run and led by women with the purpose of developing women as leaders and giving back to the local community in various ways.

Sophia is also a military spouse as her husband is still active duty and stationed in San Diego. As such, she is a big advocate for military families and veterans, and is currently working with her husband and the Vets in Tech leaders to mature the San Diego chapter with the goal being to connect veterans & their families with opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

In her free time, Sophia is a dedicated dog mom who enjoys taking her pup on hikes and to the beach.
